RICHARD AZEVEDO OBITUARY
1931-2022
On Friday, July 8, 2022, four days short of his 91st birthday, Richard Azevedo passed away peacefully at his home in Los Gatos, CA. Richard was a 56-year Yuba City resident, spending his last four years in Los Gatos at an assisted living community.
In 1962, when Richard moved to Yuba City with his wife, Jean and their two boys, he was recently promoted and on his way to a successful 39-year career with Sunsweet Growers. At Sunsweet he flourished, eventually heading all field operations and reporting directly to their CEO. When special high-ranking government officials, such as U.S. Senators and even the King of Egypt came to tour the plant, Richard was always assigned as their guide and entertained them while they were in town. Richard was a trusted friend and advisor to all of Sunsweet's important growers.
As a child, Richard grew up on one of the Azevedo Family prune ranches in San Jose, where they sold their prunes to Sunsweet Growers. After the family left the prune business, Richard and his father went to work for Sunsweet. He was very proud that four generations of Azevedo's worked for Sunsweet over their 100+ years in business.
Richard was married to the love of his life, Jean Azevedo, for 56 years, until her passing in 2011. He retired five years early so he could spend more time with her after she got sick. The two of them were well-known around town and were active in many fundraising activities. As an avid Clarinet player, and with Jean being a wonderful singer, they would perform at local clubs, just for the fun of it.
Richard leaves behind two sons, David (Brette), and Robert (Carol); four grandchildren, Kelly (Andres), Brandon (Gina), Evan and Tara; and three great-grandchildren, Logan, Connor and Shari.
Services will be Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City, CA. Dress is casual. Please note: There will not be a graveside service nor a reception so please join us to celebrate Richard's life at his service.
