Obituary of Leona Theresa Trezza

Leona Theresa Trezza, 83, of Yuba City, CA, passed away on October 12, 2022. Leona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Leona Orlandi was born on May 12, 1939, in San Francisco. When she was seven, she moved with her parents Leopoldo and Helen, to Redwood City. She graduated from Sequoia High School in 1957, and shortly thereafter married John Trezza, and returned to San Francisco where they lived for the next five years. In 1962, Leona and John moved to Yuba City, where they raised their sons, Michael, Mark and Matthew. Leona was a social butterfly and quickly made friends, joined local women's organizations, and enjoyed modeling in local fashion shows. Although she loved the sun, she was afraid of the water and couldn't swim. So, when Leona and John decided to build a pool, she made sure her sons could swim. She spent the next 15 summers around pools as her sons became competitive swimmers. Leona dedicated hundreds of hours driving her boys to practices, twice daily, from Memorial Day through the Labor Day swim seasons, along with volunteering for the local swim team. In the 1970s, Leona took up tennis and continued playing throughout the 1980s and 1990s. While she enjoyed the exercise, what Leona loved even more was spending time with the "tennis ladies", the occasional travel abroad, and keeping company with friends. More recently, Leona volunteered time at the American Cancer Discovery Shop and St. Vincent de Paul Food Locker at St. Isidore Catholic Church. She loved coffee, See's Candy, German Shepherds, and anything turquoise or hot pink. "Come on over for a cup of coffee and a snack, just not before 10 a.m.!" Leona was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Matthew; and brother, Russell. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Rosalba) of Yuba City, Mark (Kathy) of Clovis, Matthew's wife, Laura of Sutter; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Sophia, Wesley, Vincent, Natalie, Abby, Michael, Gianna, and Giovanni; and niece, Janet (Tim) Taylor of Truckee. A celebration of Leona's life will be held Friday, November 25, 2022, from 12-4pm at the Plaza Room, located at 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City, CA 95991.
