Obituary of Dennis Edward Emmitt Sunny D)

Dennis Edward Emmitt (Sunny D) passed away peacefully at home in Yuba City, CA on June 27, 2022. He was 68 years old. Dennis was a wonderful and energetic man who loved life and was loved by so many he knew or came in contact with. Dennis was born September 4, 1953 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to his parents Walter Lee Emmitt and Josephine Helen (Nalepka) Emmitt. Dennis spent his wonderful life involved in sports, working hard and always on the go. He enjoyed jokes, laughing as often as possible, card games, baseball and his family and friends. Dennis was a resident of the Yuba Sutter area for 41 years and was retired from the Yuba City Unified School District where he worked for 31 years. During his years at the school district Dennis was the head custodian at Barry School for 20+ years and prior to that at Lincoln School for 9 years. In all of his years working for the school district Dennis truly enjoyed his job and all of the people he came in contact with, students, staff, parents, etc. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Helen (Nalepka) Emmitt of Ann Arbor, MI, and his father Walter Lee Emmitt of Ann Arbor, MI. Dennis is survived by his wife Vicki (Rupert) Emmitt of Yuba City, his son Scott Emmitt (Rachael) of Middle Grove, NY, his daughter Staci Lucas (Erik) of Marysville, CA, his grandsons Erick and Justin Emmitt of Middle Grove, NY, his oldest brother Jerry Emmitt (Sue) of Ann Arbor, MI, his younger brothers Jim Emmitt (Cindy) of Overland Park, KS and Dean Emmitt (Myra) of Garland, TX, his younger sister Nancy Goraj (Mike) of Livonia, MI and his nephews and niece: Micah Emmitt, Jared Emmitt, Keenan Emmitt, Briauna Rupert, Ethan Rupert, Keith Rupert, and Alan Goraj. A Celebration of Life gathering to remember Dennis is being planned for the beginning of October 2022, the extended period is to allow family and friends time to grieve but also to make travel arrangements.
