Obituary of Roger Goforth

Roger Goforth, a longtime resident of Wheatland, passed away on May 22, 2023, after a prolonged battle with dementia and related complications. He was born on March 18, 1937, in Ukiah, California, to Earl Reginald Goforth and Opal Carolyn Eckhart of Oregon. Growing up in a farming family, Roger moved to Wheatland at the age of two and attended Wheatland schools. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Sea Bee before receiving an honorable discharge. After returning home, Roger worked on the hop farm with his family and married Helen Brock on May 13, 1959. He later joined Wheatland High School as a custodian bus driver and retired nearly 30 years later as transportation-maintenance supervisor. Following his retirement in 1995, Roger and Helen spent the next two decades traveling to 18 different states in their fifth-wheel. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Goforth (Brock); and his two children, Scott Roger Goforth (Janice), and Shari Helen Goforth (Michael Eby). Roger was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Goforth, Wayne Goforth, and Marshall Goforth; and his sister, Shirley Goforth (Lane). In accordance with his wishes, no public services are planned.
