Obituary of Rafael A. Villarruel

Our beloved father, Rafael A. Villarruel, 76, of Yuba City, CA, passed away on September 18, 2023, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. He passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones. Our father fondly known as "Venado" to family and friends, was born to Jose and Guadalupe Villarruel on February 19, 1947, in El Saucillo Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States and settled in Yuba City, CA, at the age of 23. He was a lifelong resident of Sutter County. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rosario Villarruel and their children, Luis Villaruel (Anna), Trini Villarruel (Michael Lopez) and 7 grandchildren: Ruben, Jonathan, Christian, Vanessa, Diego, Abby and Sophia. He cherished and was extremely proud of his grandchildren continuing their higher education. He was employed by Sierra Gold Nursery, where he worked for half a century, showing that he was beyond a loyal and dedicated employee. His true passion was specializing in grafting and budding trees. He had the ability to make others smile with his quick-witted sense of humor. He welcomed all into his home with open arms and always offering a meal. His legacy is one of love, laughter and his community. He leaves behind a tapestry woven with care and kindness. The impact he had on his family, neighbors and all who crossed his path will forever be cherished. His spirit will continue to live on through the stories we share and lessons we've learned. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary individual, let us remember Rafael for the love he gave, the laughter he spread and the strength he embodied. Visitation and recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 4-7pm. A mass will be conducted Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Yuba City, CA. Burial will follow at Sutter Cemetery.
