Obituary of Joanne Bakis

Joanne Bakis, of Marysville, CA, was born May 6, 1941, in Oakland, CA, and passed away September 28, 2023. She was a resident of the Yuba Sutter area for over 70 years. Joanne loved spending time with her husband, sons, daughter-in-law, family, friends and most of all her grandchildren. She was a Special Education Teacher teaching deaf and hard of hearing students at Lincrest School in Yuba City for over 30 years. She treasured her time there. She enjoyed traveling, reading, watching movies and taking trips to the coast. Family and friends were always her greatest joy. She will forever be loved in our hearts and memories by all who knew her. She is survived by sons, Michael P. (wife Elizabeth) Bakis, and Peter D. Bakis, both of Yuba City, CA; and grandchildren, Phoenix and Weston Bakis of Yuba City, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Bakis; parents, Nicholas and Morika Lekos; sisters, Katherine Efstratis, and Helen Changaris; and her brother, Dino Lekos. Visitation and trisagion to be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 6pm and funeral service Friday, October 13, 2023, at 11am, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, followed by graveside services at Sutter Cemetery, Rev. Dr. Christopher Flesoras presiding. Donations may be made to St. Anna Greek Orthodox Christian Church, Roseville, CA.
