Obituary of Ron Sullenger
Ron Sullenger, a lifelong Sutter County resident, veteran, farmer, and local businessman, passed away at UC Davis Medical Center from complications of cancer on Sunday, October 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on September 27, 1940, in San Francisco, CA, to Lucille and Art Sullenger. Ron attended Sutter High School and pursued higher education at Chico State. In 1960, he married his beloved wife, Susan Rusk Sullenger, in Yuba City, CA. Together, they shared a remarkable journey spanning 62 years of marriage. Ron and Susan were blessed with four daughters, and he is survived by his wife and three of his daughters: Stacie Bond, Melissa Sullenger, and Stephanie Pliha. A dedicated family man, Ron adored his nine grandchildren: McKenna Bond, Gannon Bond, Leyton Bond, Hudson Bond, Ethan Pliha, Aidan Pliha, Beckham Pliha, Rylee Marker, and Mason Marker. He cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, and his love and guidance will forever be treasured by his family. Ron's professional accomplishments were marked by his entrepreneurial spirit. He founded two successful local businesses over 30 years ago, Circle R Irrigation and Four Seasons Travel. After selling both businesses to former employees, Ron semi-retired to the family's 70-acre peach orchard, where he and Susan enjoyed the beauty of country living. In addition to his business ventures, Ron actively participated in various community organizations. He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Yuba City, where he also held the position of Past President. Ron was a dedicated Mason and held the esteemed position of Past Master of the Yuba City Masonic Lodge. He was also a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason and served as Past Club President of the Central Sacramento Valley Shrine Club. Ron's commitment to public service led him to serve as a two-term Republican Sutter County supervisor. His leadership and contributions to the community were widely recognized and appreciated. Outside of his professional and community involvement, Ron found joy in his hobbies. He had a passion for golfing at Peach Tree Country Club, where he spent many memorable moments on the course. He also had a talent for cooking, delighting his family and friends with his culinary creations. Ron Sullenger's legacy will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. His kindness, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit left an indelible mark on the Sutter County community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held in honor of Ron Sullenger on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 2pm at Peach Tree Country Club. Please join us as we gather to celebrate his remarkable life.
