Obituary of Rosemary - Thompson

Rosemary Burke Thompson passed peacefully in her sleep on December 9, 2023, at the age of 97, in Portage, Michigan. She was selfless, giving, loved, will be greatly missed, and will always hold a special place in our hearts. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
Rosemary was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on April 14, 1926. She attended Indiana University, was a professional dancer, and a bookkeeper before her marriage. Rosemary was married on January 4, 1947, raised four children, served as a Girl Scout Leader, and was honored by the Girl Scouts for her years of service. Lee and Rosemary lived in Yuba City for over 30 years, and they were married for 66 years. They were parishioners of St. Isidore Catholic Church, and she was a member of the St. Isidore Young Ladies Institute (Y.L.I.) where she served as the Treasurer. Rosemary loved to read, enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and gardening. She loved to travel and during her life was able to travel to Ireland, England, Scotland, Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Maui, and travel to various States throughout the United States. Rosemary lived the last three and a half years of her life in Kalamazoo and Portage, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her father, John R. Burke; her mother, Mary L. Durbin Burke; her brothers, John "Jack" R. Burke, Jr. and William "Bill" Burke; and her husband, Lee L. Thompson, Jr. who passed on March 17, 2013. Rosemary is survived by son, Richard Thompson (Kathy) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; daughter, Elaine Thompson of Santa Barbara, CA; son, Mark Thompson of Lincoln, CA; and daughter, Lissa Steele (Darrell) of Alturas, CA. She had six grandchildren: Deanna Bouton, Rick Thompson, Michael Thompson, Christopher "Chris" Thompson, Laura Cuevas, Olleander "Ollie" Steele. Rosemary had four great-grandchildren: Jack Bouton, Wally Bouton, Nathan "Nate" Thompson, and Jack Workman. A Rosary service will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 222 Clark Avenue in Yuba City. After the Funeral Mass, there will be a graveside service at Sutter Cemetery. If you would like to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend the services.
