Obituary of Mohan Singh Bains

In Loving Memory: Mohan Singh Bains, peacefully left this world on December 31, 2023 at the age of 83. He passed in his home surrounded by his family who provided comfort and support until the end. He was born in Shadipur, Punjab, India on January 8, 1940. In 1959, he moved to the Yuba-Sutter area in California and continued working in agriculture until he purchased land in 1963. Our beloved father, a true pillar in our family and community, was an esteemed Punjabi farmer who served as a Board of Director for the California Canning Peach Association and California Cling Peach Advisory Board. Mohan dedicated his life to his family, being a peach, walnut, and prune farmer who consistently gave back to his community. He was one of 8 founding members of the Sri Guru Nanak Sikh Temple located on 2269 Bogue Road, Yuba City, which opened in April 1980. He was one of the original directors of the 32 board of directors and served as the President for the Sikh Temple for several terms. Mohan was not only a farmer and treasured member of the Sikh Temple, but also a mentor and inspiration to his family, friends, peers, and grandchildren. His wisdom and experience were invaluable to those who sought his guidance. He selflessly shared his knowledge, always eager to help others succeed in their lives. As a father and grandfather, Mohan was the epitome of love, kindness, hard work, and generosity. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, perseverance, determination, and respect. His unconditional love and support created a strong and tight-knit family bond that will forever be cherished. He is survived by his children; his daughter, Gurjit Grewal and son-in-law, Harjinder Grewal; his son, Harinder Bains, daughter-in-law, Sukhpal Bains; his daughter, Jagdeep Nesbit and son-in-law, Keith Nesbit; seven grandchildren, Raveen Grewal, Sameena Grewal, Jasleen Bains, Jovin Bains, Jaanvi Bains, Dhaya Nesbit, and Kian Nesbit; and his sister, Avtar Kaur Takhar.
