Mark Fortna

Obituary of Mark Fortna

Mark Fortna, born and raised in Yuba City, CA, passed away on January 26, 2024, at the young age of 62. He had been battling lung cancer. Mark was born to Cynthia and Richard "Dick" Fortna, who survived him in death. Mark is one of two children. Mark leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Joanne; brother, Steven (Susan); stepson, Tracy (Stacy); grandchildren, Katie and Jacob; great-grandson, Lane; many cousins and friends; and last but not least his beloved Sadie, a crazy blue-eyed husky. Mark was a local guy, born on February 20, 1961, at Fremont Hospital in Yuba City, CA, and attended Sutter Union High School. Throughout his life, he loved boating, fishing, using his barbeque, cars, trucks and his pet dogs. As a young man he rebuilt his Mustang and became a professional mechanic working more than two decades at Harvey and Songer Wheel and Brake. Before that he was a long-distance truck driver where he drove through the 5 western states. Later in life, he returned to his first love driving trucks for Butte Sand and Gravel. Driving trucks was a job that he truly enjoyed despite his grumbles about the early morning and long hours. Some of the neighborhood may recall his sidekick, Cody, a beautiful husky-shepherd mix. After losing Cody in 2005, Mark got Dillon, a big, beautiful husky with one brown eye and one blue eye. Mark and his wife, Joanne, have, over the years, been very generous to the dogs and cats who have been fortunate enough to be fed and cared for by them. A viewing for Mark will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 4:00PM -7:00PM at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel located at 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA 95991. Flowers are welcome, but plants are preferred. Donations can also be made honoring Mark to the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life for Mark will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 12 PM-3PM at the Moose Lodge, 205 S. Walton Avenue, Yuba City, CA 95993.
