Shirley Anderson

Obituary of Shirley Daulton Anderson

In the early morning of May 1, 2024, Shirley Daulton Anderson passed away peacefully at her home in Marysville, CA. She was 86.

Shirley was born in Salt Lick, Kentucky on March 2, 1938, to Howard and Essie Daulton.

As a young child she moved to Biggs when her father became the pastor of Biggs Methodist Community Church, and after reassignment the family moved to Clarksburg and then to Yuba City, CA, where she graduated from High School as a proud Honker.

Following her graduation from the College of the Pacific with a degree in education, Shirley began teaching in the Rio Linda Union School District.

In 1971, she married George Hammons and moved to Marysville, CA. There she became a teacher at Cordua Elementary School where she taught for the next 28 years.

She was hailed as the Queen of Cordua when she retired! Nothing made Shirly happier than seeing her students succeed, and through her decades-long career, her integrity, professionalism, and dedication undoubtedly had much to do with that success.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Essie Daulton; her daughter, Cynthia; her ex husband, George; and her sister, Patsy.

She is survived by her husband, Ray of 22 years; son, Timothy Hammons (Kim), their daughters, Gwendolyn, Lillianna and Delilah; as well as son, Aaron (Sarah) and their children, Laura and Anthony; son, Peter; and countless family members and friends who have benefited from her wisdom, love and care.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Shirley's life at a funeral service at 11 AM on May 18, 2024, at the Marysville United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. There will be a private family burial.

To help keep Shirley's memory alive, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Marysville First United Church (marysville-firstumc.org) or the Christian Assistance Network of Yuba City (donations through marysville-firstumc.org).
