Obituary of Didar Singh Bains

Didar Singh Bains, of Yuba City, lived a full life to the age of 84. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He was the husband of Santi Marie Bains. They shared 58 years together, side by side, as husband and wife, building their business, creating a family, and establishing lifelong friendships. He was the father of Ajit, Diljit, and Karm Bains. His legacy continues with them, Didar's 10 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Didar was born on April 20, 1938, in Nangal Kurd, District Hoshiapur, India, to Gurpal Singh Bains and Amar Kaur Bains. He enjoyed waking before dawn and being the first to start working following his early morning prayers. His love for fresh air and time in the farmland is something that stayed true his whole life. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1958 to the Yuba-Sutter area. Here, he had a vision of his future. He lived and worked in the fertile fields as a farm laborer. He decided to call Yuba City home because of the potential he saw in the land's soil, weather, and its likeness to Punjab, India. Through his hard work and determination, he acquired land in California, Washington, Canada, Florida, and India, to add to their modest beginnings. He became the largest independent peach grower in the world, earning him the title of the "Peach King." He was also the 2nd largest cranberry grower for Ocean Spray. He shared his vision with the world, and contributed not only to agriculture, but to education, public service, healthcare, legislation, and religion. He devoted his life to others. He was a man of strong faith, which led him to support people from all over the world and different backgrounds. He encouraged and empowered others to do the same. He was a pioneer and trailblazer, paving the way for others to enrich our country with culture and a work ethic. Didar was a very religious man. He was a fearless leader and active community member. His faith also fueled a desire to give back. He felt it was his duty - making philanthropy one of his passions. He will be remembered as someone who cared for mankind. He had an incredibly strong moral compass. He traveled the world and sat at many tables, all of which he held great presence. His contributions and ability to unite people for a common cause went far beyond imagination. Didar is survived by his wife, Santi Bains; his son Ajit and daughter-in-law, Carmen; his daughter, Diljit and son-in-law, Avtar; and son, Karmdeep and beloved daughter-in-law, Harpreet; two brothers, Dilbag and Jaswant Bains; and three sisters, Gurmeet Gill, Resham Nagra, and Surinder Dale. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gurpal and Amar Bains; and his two sisters, Parkash Kaur Gill and Harbans Kaur Bihala. His loss is shared by not only his family, but around the world. A funeral service will be held this Sunday, September 18, 2022, at River Valley High School, located at 801 El Margarita Rd. in Yuba City. Services will begin at 10 a.m., with final prayers at 1 p.m. held at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara in Yuba City, located at 2468 Tierra Buena Rd.
